Pre-shipment acceptance

Bottled Water Filling Line Factory Acceptance Test Checklist

A factory acceptance test, or FAT, should compare the finished bottled water filling equipment with the approved order basis before shipment. Use this page to define test materials, observable functions, evidence, open points and the boundary between factory testing and site commissioning.

Freeze the FAT Basis Before the Test Date

A useful FAT begins with controlled project documents. Agree what can be demonstrated at the factory, which bottle and pack formats are available, and what must wait for the final site utilities and complete-line installation.

FAT Basis and Approval Record

Control Item Record Before FAT Why It Matters
Approved order scope Machine list, model, quantity, options, interfaces and latest approved revisions. Prevents inspection against an outdated quotation.
Reference formats Bottle drawings, samples, neck finish, cap, label and pack format included in the test. Defines which change parts and handling conditions can be observed.
Output basis Reference bottle, stated speed basis, test duration, planned stops and available downstream scope. Separates a stated rating from the conditions actually demonstrated.
Test materials Quantity and source of bottles or preforms, caps, water, labels, film, cartons and coding consumables. Avoids an incomplete test caused by missing buyer materials.
Factory utilities Available power, air, water, drainage and temporary equipment used for the test. Explains differences from the final site conditions.
Acceptance points Observable function, tolerance or document evidence for each contracted requirement. Makes pass, deviation and not-tested decisions traceable.
Witness and authority Buyer and supplier representatives authorized to record results and actions. Avoids informal comments being mistaken for final approval.
Shipment release rule Required closures, accepted punch-list items and documents needed before packing. Connects FAT results to a controlled shipping decision.

Use the Interactive Bottled Water Filling Line FAT Checklist

Work through each group with the approved specification beside you. A checked item means it was reviewed; it does not automatically mean the requirement passed. Record the result and evidence in the project FAT report.

Checklist progress 0 of 32 reviewed
1. Contract and machine identity
2. Workmanship, materials and safety
3. Controls and dry functions
4. Bottle transfer, rinsing, filling and capping
5. Downstream line and format handling
6. Documents, spares and accessories
7. Open points and corrective evidence
8. Packing and shipment release

Use the printed page with the controlled FAT report. Checking an item records review progress only; acceptance requires the agreed result and evidence.

Record Test Conditions and Evidence, Not Only Pass or Fail

Performance observations are meaningful only when the format, duration, materials, available line scope and interruptions are recorded. Do not convert a short factory demonstration into a guaranteed site output unless the contract explicitly defines that basis.

FAT Evidence Register

Observation Area Record Evidence Example
Test arrangement Machines connected, temporary interfaces and unavailable packages. Marked layout or test-boundary sketch.
Format and materials Bottle, cap, label or pack versions and material quantities. Sample identifiers and photographs.
Operating window Start time, stop time, planned interruptions and operator actions. Time log and event notes.
Output observation Counter basis, good/rejected sample logic and stated limitations. Counter photographs or exported records where available.
Quality observations Fill level, cap application, leakage, label or pack observations as agreed. Sample sheet, measurements and photographs.
Stops and recovery Alarm, cause, response and restart behavior observed. Alarm log and video segment reference.
Unverified items Functions that require final site utilities, materials or complete-line integration. Site acceptance carryover list.

Close the FAT Punch List with Controlled Evidence

A verbal promise is not a closure record. The final report should identify the requirement, observation, disposition, owner, due date and evidence used to close each item.

Open-Point Control Fields

Field Question to Answer Closure Standard
Requirement Which approved specification, drawing or order item applies? Reference is exact and revision-controlled.
Observation What was seen, measured or unavailable? Statement is factual and location-specific.
Classification Deviation, incomplete work, document gap, site carryover or observation? Category determines release and follow-up.
Disposition Correct, accept, retest, defer to site or revise document? Buyer and supplier authorities agree in writing.
Evidence What proves the action was completed? Photo, video, measurement or controlled document is linked.
Status Open, conditionally accepted, closed or carried to site? Final status and responsible person are recorded.

Separate Factory Acceptance from Site Acceptance

FAT checks the manufactured equipment under the agreed factory conditions. Site acceptance and commissioning confirm final utilities, installed conveyors, local materials, operator training and sustained operation in the buyer plant. The order should state which results belong to each stage.

Factory acceptance

Machine identity, workmanship, available functions, agreed format tests, documents, accessories and shipment readiness.

Site commissioning

Final positioning, utilities, complete-line interfaces, local materials, training and correction of installation issues.

Site acceptance

Contract-defined operation and quality checks under the final plant conditions and agreed responsibility boundary.

Buyer questions

Questions Buyers Ask Before Quotation

What should a bottled water filling line FAT include?

It should compare machine identity, approved scope, workmanship, safety functions, controls, bottle handling, rinsing, filling, capping, available downstream functions, documents, accessories and packing readiness against the agreed order basis.

Does a factory acceptance test prove the final production output?

Not automatically. Record the reference bottle, materials, connected machines, test duration, interruptions and factory utilities. Final site output may also depend on installed conveyors, local materials, operators, utilities and complete-line integration.

Which test materials should the buyer prepare?

Confirm the agreed quantities and versions of bottles or preforms, caps, water, labels, coding consumables, film and cartons. The exact materials depend on the ordered equipment and formats selected for FAT.

What is the difference between FAT and site acceptance?

FAT reviews the manufactured equipment under agreed factory conditions. Site commissioning and acceptance review the finally installed line with site utilities, local materials, trained operators and the contractual site-test basis.

Can equipment ship with open FAT items?

Only according to the agreed release rule. Items should be classified as shipment-blocking, accepted punch-list work or site carryover, with responsible persons, due dates and written evidence requirements.

How should FAT problems be recorded?

Give every item a unique number, requirement reference, factual observation, photo or measurement where appropriate, classification, owner, target date, disposition and closure evidence.
